Stephen P. Lichtstein
Partner
Stephen Lichtstein specializes in tax, estate planning, and corporate planning for individuals and business enterprises. He has diverse legal experience in such areas as:
- Counseling individuals, families, and their businesses in the estate planning and probate areas, including the drafting of wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, and other instruments effectuating the lifetime and testamentary transfer of assets;
- Counseling individuals and entities with regard to employee benefits, compensation planning, and personal and corporate income tax planning;
- Representing and counseling estates, trusts, beneficiaries, and charitable organizations in a variety of related matters, including issues relative to the performance of fiduciaries in the administration of trusts and estates;
- Counseling clients in connection with methods of planned charitable trusts and other charitable-type agreements;
- Counseling clients about estate and succession planning for their family businesses;
- Counseling clients in connection with generation skipping transfer tax recommendations and the implementation of related instruments; and
- Preparing business agreements relating to closely-held businesses, including the formation of corporations, partnerships, and limited liability corporations, as well preparing various shareholder and/or partnership agreements.
Prior to starting his own firm, Stephen had been a member of the Tax Department at Hannoch Weisman in New Jersey since 1976.
Stephen has lectured for the American College, The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and various chapters of certified life underwriters, as well as to various other professional groups on estate planning, income tax planning, and employee benefit planning. He has served as a member of the Attorney Network Advisory Council for the PaineWebber, now UBS Financial Services, Inc., Attorney Network for Estate Planning Lawyers since 1993.
Stephen received degrees in business and accounting from American University in 1968 and a law degree from American University's Washington College of Law in 1971. In 1974, he received an LL.M. degree in taxation from the New York University School of Law. He is a member of the Bar of the States of New Jersey and New York.
