Richard S. Finkelstein
Partner
Richard Finkelstein specializes in tax, estate planning, and corporate planning for individuals and business enterprises.
Richard has diverse legal experience, counseling clients in many types of matters, including:
- counseling individuals, families, and their businesses in the estate planning and probate areas, including the drafting of wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, and other instruments effectuating the lifetime and testamentary transfer of assets;
- counseling individuals and entities with regard to employee benefits, compensation planning, and personal and corporate income tax planning;
- counseling clients regarding planned charitable trusts and other charitable-type agreements; and
- counseling clients in connection with estate and succession planning for family businesses, as well as implementation of the related instruments.
Richard represents and counsels estates, trusts, beneficiaries, and charitable organizations in a variety of related matters, including issues relative to the performance of fiduciaries in the administration of trusts and estates. He has represented clients before the Internal Revenue Service and state tax agencies. He prepares business agreements relating to closely-held businesses, including formation of corporations, partnerships, and limited liability corporations, as well as various shareholder and/or partnership agreements. He also negotiates and structures joint ventures, acquisitions, dispositions, and other transactions.
Prior to joining Berkowitz, Lichtstein, Kuritsky, Giasullo & Gross, LLC, Richard had been a member of the Tax Department at Hannoch Weisman since 1986. After graduating from New York University in 1982, Richard attended Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he graduate cum laude in 1985. He then received a Masters Degree in Taxation from the New York University School of Law.
Richard is a member of the New Jersey and New York Bars and is active in various national, state and local bar associations.
A frequent lecturer on estate planning and administrative issues, he has appeared before bar association panels, accounting societies, and various corporate groups.
